Subject Leader for Modern Foreign Languages

Year 7

During Year 7 students access French through topic areas.  They are given the opportunity to extend their awareness of French and to develop other essential skills such as creativity, studying independently and working effectively as part of a team.

Years 8 and 9

In Year 8 a number of students will be given the opportunity to study Spanish in addition to French.  These students will have shown a flair for languages in Year 7.  Students then continue to study French or French and Spanish throughout the remainder of the Key Stage.  At the end of the Key Stage, students will have had the necessary preparation to be able to opt for either language at GCSE.

We offer GCSE courses in French and Spanish.  The course develops students’ skills in speaking and listening, reading and writing.  The emphasis is on developing a student’s ability to communicate effectively in a variety of different situations.  Their skills are developed through a range of contexts, including identity and culture, local, national, international and global areas of interest and current and future study and employment.
